Governing the access, licensing, and reproduction of photographs from the Ajax Images sports photography archive.

These terms of use apply to all visitors to ajaximages.com and to all persons and organizations that license, download, or otherwise make use of photographs from the Ajax Images archive. By accessing this website or requesting images from our collection, you agree to be bound by the following terms.

1. Copyright and Ownership

All photographs in the Ajax Images archive are protected by copyright under Dutch law and applicable international treaties. Copyright is held by the individual photographers or by Ajax Images as commissioning party, depending on the terms of the original assignment. No transfer of copyright occurs through licensing — you receive permission to use an image under specified terms, not ownership of the image itself.

2. Licensing Requirements

No image from the Ajax Images archive may be reproduced, distributed, displayed, or used in any medium without a valid license. Licenses are issued on a per-image, per-use basis unless a broader agreement has been negotiated in writing. The scope of any license is limited to the specific use, territory, duration, and medium stated in the license agreement.

3. Registration and Access

Access to high-resolution downloads requires registration and acceptance of these terms. Registration is available to media professionals, publishers, broadcasters, and other parties with a legitimate need for professional sports photography. Ajax Images reserves the right to decline registration applications and to revoke access at any time for violations of these terms.

4. Permitted Uses

Licensed images may be used for the purpose specified in the license agreement. Common permitted uses include:

• Editorial illustration in newspapers, magazines, and news websites
• Commercial advertising and marketing materials (requires commercial license)
• Academic publications and educational materials
• Documentary and broadcast productions
• Corporate communications and internal presentations

5. Prohibited Uses

Without specific written authorization, the following uses are prohibited regardless of license type:

• Resale or sublicensing of images to third parties
• Use in any context that is defamatory, obscene, or otherwise illegal
• Modification of images in a way that misrepresents the depicted events or persons
• Removal or alteration of embedded metadata, watermarks, or credit information
• Use of images in political advertising or endorsement contexts without explicit clearance
• Training of artificial intelligence or machine learning models

6. Credit and Attribution

All published uses of images from our archive must include a photographer credit in the form specified in the image's IPTC metadata. The standard credit format is: [Photographer Name] / Ajax Images. Failure to provide proper credit is a breach of the license terms and may result in additional fees.

7. IPTC Metadata

Every image delivered from our archive includes embedded IPTC metadata containing photographer credits, copyright information, caption text, and usage terms. Recipients must not strip, alter, or obscure this metadata. When images are published digitally, IPTC metadata should be preserved in the published file wherever technically feasible.

8. Liability

Ajax Images provides images in good faith and makes reasonable efforts to ensure accurate captioning and rights information. However, the licensee bears ultimate responsibility for verifying that their intended use complies with all applicable laws, including but not limited to privacy, publicity, and trademark regulations. Ajax Images shall not be liable for any claims arising from the licensee's use of images beyond the scope of the license granted.

9. Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Netherlands. Any disputes arising from these terms or from the licensing of images from the Ajax Images archive shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Amsterdam.

10. Changes to These Terms

Ajax Images reserves the right to update these terms at any time. Significant changes will be communicated to registered users via email. Continued use of the website or archive after such notification constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
